The role of the Counsellor
The counsellor is there both as an information resource but also as a support and advice person when a problem is found. There are an increasing number and increasing complexity of tests available and the counsellor is there to help each patient decide which tests are best for her.

Melbourne Fetal Assessment Center (MFAC)
MFAC is a group of specialists who practice from our location in Lygon Street who act in a consultative role to provide information to patients when an abnormality is found. MFAC offers a new approach to clinical diagnosis and management for non hospital patients. This is the first privately run Australian center dedicated to providing multi-disciplinary management to couples in whom a fetal abnormality has been diagnosed. The diagnosis of fetal abnormalities and the counselling of couples to provide maximum information on outcomes is an increasingly complex discipline. It relies on combining the expertise of the obstetrical ultrasonologists, obstetricians, medical geneticists, counsellors, pediatricians from various specialties plus occasional other professionals. The skills of specialists with an interest in prenatal care are now combined in this one center. The MFAC site may be visited at mfac.com.au.

The Ultrasound Examination
We use only the highest quality, state of the art equipment. We aim to provide an attentive unhurried professional service to all patients. The sonographers and doctors are available to show patients images and explain their relevance. Pregnant women will have the opportunity of taking away photographs, plus a video recording if they wish.
